Pathways into the qualification

Preferred pathways for candidates entering this qualification include:

■ BSB41412 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or other relevant qualifications, or extensive vocational experience in work health and safety roles without a formal qualification. When you successfully complete this course, you may continue onto the Advanced Diploma of Work Health and Safety BSB60615.

Who Is This Course For

The Diploma of Work Health and Safety (WHS) will give you the practical skills and knowledge you need to implement work health and safety (WHS) regulations in the workplace. The qualification is nationally recognised so you can work a wide range of industries anywhere in Australia.

You will learn how to identify and control WHS hazards and risks, conduct a WHS audit and investigate WHS incidents, develop policies and procedures, implement WHS management systems, and manage rehabilitation and return to work programs.

Entry Requirements

Pre-requisite units are the BSB41412 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or equivalent competencies

  • BSBWHS402A Assist with compliance with WHS laws
  • BSBWHS403A Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS consultation and participation processes
  • BSBWHS404A Contribute to WHS hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control
  • BSBWHS405A Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS management systems
  • BSBWHS406A Assist with responding to incidents
OR have extensive vocational experience in work health and safety roles
without a formal qualification.  Individuals who believe they possess equivalent skills and knowledge to the above may apply to be assessed for entry into the Diploma program.  This process will include a discussion with the course facilitator prior to entry into the program.

Are you eligible for RPL?

What is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)?  Recognition is a process of acknowledging previously completed skills, qualifications, knowledge or other experience relevant to your particular course. If you previously completed such modules, this may reduce the overall amount of learning or course units required that may allow you to achieve your qualification sooner.

If you believe that you have gained recognition through experience of your skills, knowledge or experience as part of your previous part-time, full-time or casual work, you may be eligible to apply.  To apply for RPL, you can contact us for more information.

Requirements for RPL

You will need to provide evidence to the assessor at Oz Health Safety and Training to demonstrate that you have the skills and knowledge required to meet the requirements of the course you are enrolled in to receive credit.  Evidence for RPL that you submit must be current and may include:

  • Letters and references, including confirmation from your employers, clients or community groups
  • References from your paid or unpaid work experience
  • Samples of your work, including reports, articles or publications

Copies of original certificates or other documents must be certified by a Justice of the Peace (JP). Alternatively, you may bring the original documents to be sighted by the assessor to certify your copies.

You may also be required to undertake an interview, practical assessment or challenge tasks to demonstrate that your skills are current.
